Why paranoid is reasonable

Schools increasingly run student work through AI and similarity detectors. Students, meanwhile, are told not to touch AI at all. When the only evidence in the room is a score, an honest student has nothing to put next to it.

Correct science is written in a small number of ways. The better a student understands a topic, the more likely their sentence looks like one a professional wrote somewhere — including somewhere they could never have read. That is not plagiarism. Things people ask first
Does Marvin prove I didn’t cheat?
No tool can honestly prove that, and we won’t pretend to. Marvin gives you a detailed, timestamped record of how your work was made. That record is strong evidence to put in front of a teacher — far stronger than a promise — but the judgement stays with people.
Can I use AI in Marvin at all?
Yes, as a mentor. It asks questions, points you back to your notes and sources, and helps you think. It won’t write or rewrite your work, and every conversation is part of the record, so your teacher can see exactly what help you had.
What if I paste something in?
You can. Pasted text is labelled “external paste — lineage unknown” and that label stays in the record even after you edit it or add a reference. Being upfront is what makes the rest of your record believable.
Who can see my audit trail?
You, and the teachers on assignments you’ve been given or submitted. You can export the record for any piece of work yourself.
Does it replace our plagiarism checker?
It doesn’t have to. Many schools will run both. Marvin adds the thing a checker can’t provide: the process behind a submission, so a flag can be investigated rather than simply believed.
